My background in architecture has had a tremendous influence on the way I approach design. With more than 20 years in the profession, I’ve learned to think about the whole picture while paying close attention to the smallest details. Proportion, balance, materials, craftsmanship, and the way individual elements come together have always mattered to me. Those principles continue to influence everything we create at Legacy & Aperture.

My inspiration for working with my hands began long before my career in architecture.

I grew up watching my father work with wood. There was something special about seeing him take a simple piece of material and transform it through patience, skill, and creativity. His love of woodworking taught me to appreciate the process of making something, as well as the finished product. That appreciation has stayed with me and remains one of the foundations of what we do today.

Over the years, my family and I have also been fortunate to experience the community of artisans and craftspeople throughout North Carolina. Visiting craft shows, festivals, and local markets has introduced us to talented makers with unique skills and equally distinctive stories. Seeing the pride these craftsmen and women take in their work has reinforced our belief that handmade items should have character, purpose, and a story of their own.

That belief became the foundation for Legacy & Aperture.

Today, Legacy & Aperture is a family-owned and operated business in Monroe, NC. My wife, our two teenage daughters, and I all play a part. What began with my passion for design and love of craftsmanship has become something we get to build together as a family.

We create thoughtfully crafted pieces that bring together design, creativity, and attention to detail. From personalized gifts and laser-engraved pieces to locally inspired art, wall art, and custom designs, we approach each project with care and intention.

The smallest details matter to us. It may be the way a line follows a curve, the balance of a design, the texture of a material, or the finishing touch that makes a piece feel just right. Those details may not be the first thing you notice, but they are often what makes a handmade piece feel special.

Every piece is an opportunity to bring those influences into our work: my architectural background, the inspiration I received from my father, and our family’s appreciation for North Carolina’s artisan community and the joy of creating.
