North Carolina Ornament

Inspired by school-day memories and a lasting sense of home, I created this layered celebration of North Carolina from engineered maple and cherry.

THE STORY BEHIND THE PIECE

A little North Carolina. A lifetime of memories.

Learning North Carolina’s state symbols was one of those childhood lessons that stayed with me long after the school day ended. The familiar flowers, birds, and wildlife became part of how I pictured home—and later, my inspiration for this ornament.

With this piece, I wanted to celebrate the things I remember learning, the places I recognize, and the connections I carry with me.

A CLOSER LOOK

Familiar details, thoughtfully connected.

I brought dogwood blossoms, a cardinal, a squirrel, and a turtle together with a race car and coastal lighthouse within the outline of North Carolina. I paired pale engineered maple with warmer cherry to bring the engraved imagery into focus, giving each detail depth while keeping the whole piece connected.
